Thunder Snow Wins Dubai World Cup by a Nose

Nelson Clemmens, founder of AmWest Entertainment, LLC, oversees a company that offers simulcast services of Thoroughbred racing events as well as an online wagering platform, AmWager. A member of several professional associations, Nelson Clemmens also supports state, national, and international Thoroughbred racing events, including the Dubai World Cup.

The winner of the 2019 Dubai World Cup was Thunder Snow, marking the horse’s second consecutive win at the race. Trained by Saeed bin Suroor and jockeyed by Christophe Soumillon, Thunder Snow’s official time in the 2,000-meter race was 2 minutes, 3.87 seconds. His 2019 finish was about two and a half seconds longer than the track record he set during last year’s win: 2 minutes, 1.38 seconds.

Winning over Gronkowski by a nose, five-year-old Thunder Snow is the first horse to win the Dubai World Cup consecutive times. Overall, Thunder Snow has won eight of his 23 career starts.

Sponsored by Emirates Airline, the prize money for the elite Dubai World Cup racing event is $12 million.

About Nelson Clemmens

Former corporate finance and investment banking professional Nelson Clemmens has been involved in the horse racing industry for many years. An alumnus of Stetson University with a BA in Finance, he received his MBA from Western Kentucky University before joining GE Capital, subsequently becoming a principal in a successful medical technology venture that went public, then establishing Pine South Capital and furthering his ongoing investor activity. Due to his long involvement as a Thoroughbred owner and breeder in Kentucky, New York, and Pennsylvania, Nelson Clemmens had a personal interest in ensuring the industry had a bright future, which resulted in him founding AmWest Entertainment LLC, and its AmWager operations.

Outside of his AmWest role, Nelson Clemmens has routinely supported beneficial industry organizations such as the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, and New Vocations. He maintained an active involvement with the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association for many years.

Dedicated to sharing his professional experience with others, Nelson Clemmens served on the Board of Community Living, Inc., and as the chairman of both the Investment Committee and the Board of the School of Business as well as Trustee at Stetson University. He was actively involved with The Council on Developmental Disabilities, Special Olympics, and the Bellewood Foundation. He serves on the Board of Day Spring and is also a member of the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association and Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
